The Moldovan citizenship exam
To get citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, you have to pass an exam on the Constitution of Moldova and on the state (Romanian) language. Below is how the exam works and how to prepare for it.
What the exam consists of
Constitution test
20 questions in Romanian from the official ANCE bank. The passing threshold is 11 correct answers out of 20. The answers are checked against the text of the Constitution of Moldova as amended on 20.10.2024.
Language test
A B2-level check of your Romanian, following the structure of the official exam: grammar and vocabulary, reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
Where and when the exam takes place
The exam is run by the ANCE agency (Agenția Națională pentru Curriculum și Evaluare). It's written and held in person, in Chișinău.
Venue
Moldova State University (Universitatea de Stat din Moldova), teaching campus, block 5, Sala polivalentă hall, 3/2 Academiei St., Chișinău.
Session dates are published in advance — usually several dates over the year. Check the current schedule and venue on the official exam page: schedule on the ANCE website.
The citizenship application and required documents are submitted in person at Agenția Servicii Publice (ASP) in Chișinău; booking is online. The processing fee is published there too: the service on the ASP website.
Exam rules
- The exam is written, in Romanian.
- The Constitution test is 20 multiple-choice questions: at least three options, one correct. The passing threshold is 11 correct answers out of 20.
- Language proficiency is tested at a B2 level.
- Bring a blue pen — the test is filled out with it.
- Language threshold: 50 out of 100 points for permanent residence, 75 for citizenship.
From people who've taken it: a score of 75+ on the permanent-residence exam also counts for citizenship — you don't need to retake the language part, only the Constitution. If you apply straight for citizenship and score under 75, no certificate is issued at all — so choose the exam's stated purpose on your application carefully.
